"If we leave this place," Bob says with half a smile. "But okay." It's a nice thought, teaching someone something, even something like self-defense. "Tomorrow before dinner. At the gym? Or somewhere else?" Maybe her cabin is cooler than his and has a fighting mat or something in it.
"What can I say, I'm an optimist," she says, pairing the blatant lie with a broad grin.
"We'll meet at the gym. Once you've got the basics, we can do some sessions in the Enclosure, to get you used to how different environments can impact a fight, but the gym is good for now. It should be pretty quiet at that time of day."
Yeah, she's not an optimist. He knows that much about her. But he chuckles anyway, because that's the kind of people they are, at least in this.
"Oh! I can even shake on it, if you want." He shifts around, and fishes into his pockets to pull out some gloves with a triumphant little flourish. "See?"
He pulls the gloves on, uncurls the rest of the way, and leans over to stretch out his hand towards her with a smile. "Smart idea, right? John came up with it after I touches his hand, too."
He shakes back, smiling in a more real way than usual. They're being silly, but in a fun way, and also he just touched her without causing any terrible memories to surface. Win-win. "Then I'll see you tomorrow before dinner. I'll try not to be too pathetic when you knock me down the third time." That's a joke. Mostly. He knows he's due for a lot of falling down.
